Australian supermarket chain Coles has launched a new chain of convenience stores branded as Big Yum at Little Coles, complementing its existing Coles Express banner, according to an article in the Australian.
The new Coles stores are said to offer a range of products designed for immediate consumption, such as take-out coffee and cold drinks, in addition to bakery goods such as croissants, as well as a “healthier” product range adding fruit, wraps, vegetables and sushi. Grocery, household and personal care items are also in the pipeline, with Coles said to be keen to match prices in these new stores to those available in its regular supermarkets.
Rebranded Coles Express locations – in in the Victorian suburbs of Kew, South Yarra and Windsor – are said to have acted as pilot stores for the new concept,
“We are closely watching the performance of these proof of concept sites and will look to incorporate successful elements of the format elsewhere in the store network”, said Coles Express director Simon McDowell.
