Lactalis, the dairy processing business, has unveiled a new milk-receiving bay at its manufacturing site in Winchester, Ontario. The project represents an investment of C$11.5 million ($8.37 million) and is intended to improve operational efficiency at what is described as the largest plant of its kind in Canada. The Winchester facility produces various brands, including Balderson, Lactantia, Cracker Barrel and Black Diamond.
According to the company, the new, fully automated bay features high-speed receiving capabilities and advanced cleaning systems. The upgrade is expected to significantly reduce wait times for milk tankers and provides the necessary infrastructure for future production increases. The move follows a previous decision by the company to close its facility in Sudbury as it exits the dairy alternatives category.
Commenting on the opening, Mark Taylor, President & CEO of Lactalis Canada, said: “This new milk-receiving bay is a significant investment in our Winchester plant […] It enhances our ability to process milk more efficiently and supports our long-term growth strategy”.
