USA: Fresh Del Monte reunites Del Monte brand with $285 million acquisition

Fresh Del Monte Produce, the US-based produce giant, has agreed to acquire the vegetable, tomato and refrigerated fruit assets of bankrupt peer Del Monte Foods for $285 million, effectively reuniting the Del Monte brand under a single owner for the first time in nearly four decades.

The transaction, which emerged from a court-supervised auction following Del Monte Foods’ Chapter 11 filing in July 2025, will see Fresh Del Monte take ownership of a portfolio including the Del Monte, S&W, Contadina, and Joyba brands. The deal includes selected production facilities in the US states of Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Washington, as well as operations in Mexico and Venezuela. The move aligns fresh and shelf-stable products under one strategy, with the company aiming to leverage its global supply chain to drive efficiency and innovation.

Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh, Fresh Del Monte’s Chairman and CEO, commented: “Bringing the Del Monte brand back together reflects a long-held conviction of mine. By uniting fresh and shelf-stable food under one strategy, we are honoring the brand’s legacy while supporting it for continued relevance and growth”.

Fresh Del Monte, which previously expanded its vegetable portfolio with the acquisition of Mann Packing in 2018, was one of three successful bidders for the assets. In separate transactions, B&G Foods agreed to purchase the College Inn and Kitchen Basics broth brands for $110 million, while Pacific Coast Producers acquired the shelf-stable fruit business.
