B&G Foods, the US-based ambient and frozen foods company, has announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its Green Giant and Le Sieur frozen brands in Canada to Nortera.
According to B&G Foods, the proceeds will be utilised for general corporate purposes, including long-term debt repayment, acquisition of assets relevant to its business activities, and the settlement of taxes, fees and sale-related expenses.
Nortera is a leading North American supplier of frozen and canned vegetables, with 13 plants in Canada and the United States, and a workforce of over 3,000. It has been the exclusive producer of Green Giant and Le Sieur in Canada for 30 years.
Commenting on the move, B&G Foods president and chief executive officer Casey Keller said: “Green Giant is a well-recognized and trusted brand in Canada. We believe that Nortera Foods, the long-time, primary co-manufacturer for the brand in Canada, is well-positioned to drive continued success for Green Giant in Canada”.
Nortera chief executive officer Hugo Boisvert added: “The acquisition marks a strategic milestone, positioning Nortera to innovate and diversify in the increasingly competitive Canadian food marketplace, while continuing to make the benefits of vegetables accessible to as many Canadians as possible”.
The transaction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025 or the first quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approval. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
