India-based food firm Adani Wilmar has started operations at its new food processing plant in Gohana, Haryana, with an initial shipment of 100 tonnes of rice.

Spanning 85 acres and built with an investment of INR 1,298 crore ($149 million), the facility reportedly features advanced technology and is projected to produce 627,000 tons annually, including 200,000 tonnes of edible oils and 450,000 tonnes of other food products, as well as animal feed supplements.

Commenting on the move, Adani Wilmar MD & CEO Angshu Mallick said: “The commencement of our Gohana plant represents a significant step forward in our commitment to India’s food security and economic growth. […] We ensure that all our specifications meet FSSAI requirements and that all our plants follow the American Institute of Bakers standard, which has over 280 points on which audit is done”.

The plant is expected to create 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
