Los Angeles-based bakery firm King’s Hawaiian has announced plans to invest $200 million to build a manufacturing facility in Taylorsville, IN.
According to a report in Food Business News, the company has purchased 88 acres and plans a 300,000-square-foot facility to be built in phases, with the first phase creating 125 to 150 jobs.
“We are faced with a wonderful problem of capacity limitation”, said Joe Leonardo, senior vice president of King’s Hawaiian. “We started looking for a location two years ago and looked for the right communities. Taylorsville, Indiana, for many good reasons: the manufacturing-based community, the infrastructure and community-based efforts”.
“We’re looking at space for potentially a freezer on site, leaving room to design (additional elements) to staff the facility fully”, he added.
The new plant is expected to begin operations as early as 2026.
