Cheese maker Sargento Foods has acquired the Wisconsin-based Baker Cheese Factory, due to the increasing demand for more convenient on-the-go dairy products.
According to Sargento Foods, cheese snacking has become ‘one of the fastest growing sections of the cheese category’, so the firm decided to acquire the local mozzarella string cheese producer, which had recently been ‘growing aggressively’, to face that demand.
The CEO of Sargento Foods, Louie Gentine, said: “This is a great opportunity and will allow us to continue our industry-leading growth in the marketplace”, about the purchase of Baker Cheese Factory.
The chief executive of Bakery Cheese Factory, Brian Baker, said “We believe Sargento has the right culture, capabilities, and commitment to innovation to grow our business for generations to come. Our award-winning string cheese and commitment to service and quality aligns with everything Sargento seeks to accomplish. We welcome this important step toward our future”.
The company has also said that the takeover will not displace any of the current employees of Baker Cheese Factory.
The deal was made for an undisclosed sum.
