Freeze Dry Industries, an Australian company specialising in the freeze drying of fresh fruits, vegetables and other raw materials, has opened a new “state-of-the-art” manufacturing facility on the Sunshine Coast.
Michael Buckley, chief executive officer of Freeze Dry Industries, commented: “The official opening today of our new facility is a huge step for us, something that I’ve been looking forward to over the past 12 months”.
The facility will create freeze-dried products for SunLife, the firm’s retail arm.
Meanwhile, the firm said it had been studying how to freeze dry other products, including pineapple cores and plum skins, that otherwise would be wasted.
“It gives us the chance to turn something that would traditionally be thrown out into a potential superfood”, Mr Buckley said.
